We keep your personal data private

We do everything we can to keep your personal data truly private. When you place an order with us, you naturally don’t want anyone else to have access to your personal information — and you’re absolutely right.

We do ask for some details from you so we can help you as best as possible. Below, you can read which data we collect, how we use it, what your rights are, who has access to it, and how long we keep it.

Privacy legislation

According to privacy laws, we must state the legal grounds for using your data. We need your information because of the contractual agreements between you and Wieport, such as when you buy a product or claim your warranty. This applies to:

  • Ordering & pre-orders

  • Delivery

  • Returns & repairs

  • Trade-ins & second chances

  • Contact with our customer service

  • Wieport Business

We may also use your data under legitimate interest. This means we aim to provide all our customers with the best possible, personalized service — always respecting your privacy. This applies to:

  • Reviews & customer satisfaction surveys

  • Contact with our customer service

  • Visiting the Wieport website

  • Your account

  • Newsletters & emails

  • Personal recommendations

  • Promotions

  • Social media

We may also be legally required to use your data, for example if we suspect fraud. And sometimes you’ve given us permission yourself — for instance, when subscribing to our newsletter. We make sure to record this properly.

Who has access to your data?

We only share your data with other parties when it’s truly necessary for our services. These include: delivery partners, suppliers or repair services, product support, payment partners, credit information agencies, IT service providers, and review collection platforms. For example, our delivery partner needs your address to deliver your order.

Other parties — such as data management platforms, media and advertising agencies, or research firms — may access your data when we want to provide personalized advice or display targeted ads based on your product interests. In suspicious situations, we are legally obligated to share customer data with government authorities.

The parties that receive access to your data from us may only use it to provide a service on behalf of Wieport — unless they are independently responsible for obtaining and protecting your data.

How long do we keep your data?

We keep and use your data only as long as necessary. After that, we delete all personal information we have about you — or anonymize it for internal analyses and reports, such as order value statistics.

Here’s how that works in practice:

  • Recorded phone calls are automatically deleted after 30 days, unless we are legally required to keep them longer.

  • Inactive customer accounts are deleted after 7 years. After that, we only use anonymized data for internal reporting.

  • From the Dutch Tax Authority (Belastingdienst), we are required to keep our administration — including invoices, payment, and order data — for 7 years. After that, we only use anonymized data. You should also keep your own invoices in case your warranty expires.

  • Repairs or replacements handled by Wieport are stored for 7 years along with your contact information, after which we only use anonymized data.

  • Newsletter subscriptions or personalized message permissions are stored for 5 years, even if you unsubscribe later. Emails you receive from us are kept for no longer than 60 days, so you won’t receive duplicates.

  • Data used for fraud prevention is kept for a long time — not fun, but necessary.
