The basis of USB 4 is the current technology of Thunderbolt 3, which we already find in the latest Macs and iMacs. Therefore, the new standard also supports the same data transfer speed as Thunderbolt 3, namely 40 Gbps. This is a doubling compared to the previously announced USB 3.2.

The advantage for Apple users is that USB 4 is backwards compatible with USB 3.2, USB 2.0, and Thunderbolt 3. This means that you can connect a device with USB 2.0 to a USB 4 device. This is good news for Apple users who already have Thunderbolt 3. USB 4 uses the same USB-C connector as the current Thunderbolt 3 port, so you don't have to get all new cables and accessories.

    Support for multiple displays
Like Thunderbolt 3, USB 4 supports two 4K HDR displays at 60Hz, allowing you to connect screens without any problems. 5K displays are also fully supported. Furthermore, USB 4 supports a power capacity of 100W. This means you can connect devices that require a significant amount of power.

For Apple users, this means that connecting external devices to current Macs with Thunderbolt 3 becomes much easier. Since Thunderbolt 3 is essentially built into USB 4, you no longer have to work with adapters. There's also a good chance that the new standard will increase the availability of products. The advantage of USB 4 over Thunderbolt 3 is that no licensing fee needs to be paid. Therefore, it is more likely that more accessory makers will support USB 4, possibly even with cheaper accessories.
